Atmo Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, editor of the Captothèque application and service, take great care in the use of your information and data. When you use the Captothèque application, in particular when you measure air quality thanks to your micro-sensor, you are led to share with us data and information of a personal nature, concerning you or your activity, such as your location data for example.

The policy described below informs you in which framework and under which conditions these data are recovered, recorded and used through your use of the Captothèque application, in compliance with the European Union Regulation on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, known as the RGPD.

Organisation responsible for processing your data

The organisation responsible for processing your data is Atmo Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a French association in accordance with the law of 1 July 1901, whose head office is located at 3 allée des Sorbiers, 69500 Bron.

What information is collected ?

Personal Account Information

When you use the Captothèque application, we may ask you to provide certain personally identifiable information that may be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include your contact email address, which is used to log into the service.

Location data

When you use the Captothèque application, when you take an air quality measurement with your micro-sensor, we collect and process location information, such as position and altitude, as accurately as possible, from your phone. We do not track or use this information when you are not using the application.

In the case of an air quality measurement, and for the proper delivery of the service provided by the application, we need to track the location of your device. This allows you to track your measurement on a map in the application, and to view it later in our web platform, after the data has been saved on our server.

This information is never stored together with your personal information, such as e-mail address, on our servers. Thus, except through exclusive processing by our web platform or our Captothèque application, it is impossible to link your personal information and your location or air quality measurement data.

If you wish to stop tracking your device's location, you can do so at any time by changing your device settings. Also, you can choose to use location data when using the Captothèque application, but not share it on our server. To do this, in the Record Measurement screen of the Captothèque application, select Hide my GPS locations.
This way, we will not record and use your location data to display your measurement on our platform.

Air quality and environmental data measured with your sensor

By using the app with our MOBI sensor, you measure and collect air quality information (PM1, PM2.5, PM10) and environmental data (temperature, humidity). This information is sent by your sensor to the application via Bluetooth, and can be recorded, if you wish, on our servers for historical purposes. If you expressly authorise us to do so from the application, it will then be linked to your location data collected. However, like your location data, the air quality and environmental data collected is never stored together with your personal information such as email address on our servers.

Technical data about your phone, your operating system and their features

When you use the Captothèque application, we collect technical information about your phone, such as the make and model, the version of the operating system, the available memory and the way your phone is used. This information is anonymous and allows us, for example, to detect bugs that you may encounter when using the service.

How is the information used ?

Atmo Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes may use the information listed above for various purposes:

Optimal service delivery

Most of the information collected allows us to provide you with an optimal service experience, including the following actions:

  • Logging into the service
  • Managing your account
  • Recording your air quality measurements
  • Contact you, via notification or email, when necessary
  • Identify any bugs you may encounter

This information may be shared with third parties, such as members of the service operating team, Atmo Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes employees, developers, or third-party applications necessary to manage your account (Firebase in particular). This information is never sold, used for commercial reasons or other reasons than the good management and the good supply of the service.

Internal analysis and statistics

In addition to the proper management of the service, this data may be used by our teams for statistical analysis of the use of the service.

The case of location data and environmental or air quality measurement data

The environmental and air quality data and their associated locations that you have expressly wished to share on our servers constitute a potential set of information of a scientific nature. Thus, beyond their use for the optimal provision of the service, they may be used in the context of research and studies with an environmental, scientific or sociological aim. They may also be used and disseminated in the context of information, communication or awareness campaigns. In these specific cases, these data may be shared with third party institutions or individuals, such as Atmo Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes employees, research laboratories or partners.

They will then be shared anonymously or pseudonymously, unless otherwise agreed with you.

How is the information stored and protected ?

Your information, collected through the Captothèque application is, where you have authorised it, recorded and stored on our servers.

Protections in place

We store this data on different secure servers, each dedicated to a specific use: a server dedicated to storing your account information, a server dedicated to storing the environmental and air quality information you have collected and shared with us, including your location data. Thus, your location information collected on the Captoteca application and your account information are not stored in the same location. Only by processing exclusively our web platform, when you interact with it, or our Captothèque application, when you interact with it, or when a service administrator interacts with it, i.e., a member of the service operations team, or an authorised developer interacts with it, can your account information be explicitly linked to your measurements and location information.

Storage and sharing

This information is stored on servers whose operation and technical management are delegated to our  technical partner, the company Kibatic, based in Grenoble. It can only be accessed by the administrators of the Captothèque service.

Storage time

The data and information collected are stored indefinitely, unless otherwise requested by the user and/or decided by the Captothèque administrators. In the latter case, the deletion or modification of the data will only be done for technical maintenance of the service or for the optimisation of its management.

Access rights

The user has a right of access to his data, and only he, except for the administrators of the Captothèque service, can visualise, download and act on his environmental measurement data, his location data and his account data in a linked manner, notably through the web platform or the Captothèque application. If an action is not possible directly on these tools, the user can contact the Captothèque team to request it.

For example, the user can request the deletion of his account data, the partial or total deletion of his environmental measurement data or his location data.

Opting out of the collection or use of personal and location data

When you use the Captothèque application, and in particular when you take air quality measurements through your sensor, you accept the privacy policy as described here. However, you have options, and rights, regarding the collection or use of personal and location data, such as

  • Deciding not to record your location information related to any of your measurements, directly from the application, when recording your measurement

  • Unpublish your measurement after the fact, so that it is only visible to you and the administrators of the service, by accessing the details of your measurement directly from the web platform
  • Request the partial or total deletion of your information, by contacting the Captothèque team directly
